Because of its oustanding natural and historic surroundings, its taste of culture, the rural charm and of course the welcoming Turkish hospitality, Dalyan is your ideal holiday destination. The village is only a 30 minute drive from the airport of Dalaman which is accessable from most UK airports. There are also good connections via Istanbul. The flight is around 3 and a half hours - 4 hours. (Airlines that fly to Dalaman can be found on our links page).
Dalyan lies on the edge of the Dalyan Canal which joins the large inland Koycegiz lake with the Aegean/Mediterranean Sea at the point of the famous Iztuzu (Turtle) Beach where the Loggerhead Turtles lay their eggs each summer. Across from the river from the town are the Lycian Rock Tombs carved into the cliff face, slightly further downstream is the ancient city of Kaunos, just a few of the local historic attractions.
Dalyan is also an ideal location for exploring the local coast line, with its own shallow child friendly beach and with many secluded bays nearby such as the snorkelling havens of Ekincik and Asi Bays. Nearby is also the sailing town of Gocek from where you can enjoy a day spent exploring the 12-Islands of Fethiye Bay.
Dalyan -
First impressions
'We arrived in Dalyan one early evening in August 06 and before our feet touched the ground we were whisked off to the Sahil restaurant where the magic began. The view of the illuminated rock tombs carved into the cliff face, surrounded by the starlit skies took our breath away. As we dined by the waters edge, river boats chugged passed and another, a solar powered one simply glided by. Kemal treated us to such warm hospitality that night that we felt like old friends towards the end of the evening. It was to be one of many enchanting evenings in Dalyan.' Judy
